This session will focus on where you are currently in your "wellness walk". It will move on to discuss the change process and where you fit into the process. Finally, it will examine leadership and qualities of skillful leaders. Hopefully, each participant will leave equipped to experience higher levels of wellness, change, and leadership!

Has anyone ever asked to view a copy of your Policy Manual? Did you look over at your bookcase and see a binder full of dust and procedures that haven't been updated in years? If so, you are not alone. This session will provide a basic understanding of the importance of Policy & Procedure manuals. Valuable tools will be provided for guidance on how to create a Policy & Procedure manual. We will also discuss best practices to assist in the maintenance of your P&P manuals.

Although financial aid administrators are not tax advisors, we are expected to have a general knowledge of IRS forms and rules, particularly for Verification purposes. The relationship of the financial aid office with lenders has been the focus of increased attention. This session will provide guidance to financial aid administrators for constructing a preferred lender list. It will include general principles based on regulatory requirements, as well as tools to assist in developing an impartial list of student loan providers. This session will discuss best practices and provide a process that has worked in creating a systematic and equitable method for lender selection.

Closing the Achievement Gap: Maryland Pathways Presenter: Sarah Bauder, University of Maryland

Access, affordability, and choice have become critical issues as recent economic conditions have made it harder for families of modest means to afford the rising costs of education. Increasingly, families with limited resources have had to assume debt to defray these costs. The University of Maryland's Pathways program addresses the different financial needs of poverty to middle income students, using a three-tier approach. The first program is the Pathways Work-Grant, the second is the Pell Supplement, and the third is the Senior Debt Cap. Come learn more about the program and how it is helping needy college students achieve their dreams.
